Aurora Iceland — Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using the Aurora Iceland mobile application (“the App”) operated by Aurora Iceland (“we”, “us”, “our”).

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Aurora Iceland provides aurora borealis visibility forecasts and community features for visitors to Iceland, including:

• Real-time aurora probability scores for viewing locations across Iceland
• An interactive map of aurora viewing spots
• Hourly forecasts based on solar wind, cloud cover, and darkness data
• Community photo sharing of aurora sightings
• Push notification alerts for favorable aurora conditions

3. No Guarantee of Aurora Sightings

Aurora visibility scores are estimates based on publicly available data from NOAA, the Icelandic Meteorological Office, and Open-Meteo. We do not guarantee the accuracy of forecasts or that you will see the aurora borealis. Conditions can change rapidly. Always check local weather and road conditions before traveling, especially at night in winter.

4. Safety Disclaimer

Viewing the aurora often involves driving on remote roads in darkness and cold weather. You are solely responsible for your own safety. We are not liable for accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, or any other harm that may occur while traveling to or from viewing locations shown in the App.

5. User Accounts

You may create an account using Google OAuth or email. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You must choose a username that:

• Is between 2 and 20 characters
• Contains only letters, numbers, spaces, or hyphens
• Does not contain profanity or offensive language

We reserve the right to reject or remove usernames that violate these rules.

6. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of photos you upload. By posting content to the App, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and reproduce your content within the App and for promotional purposes.

You agree not to upload content that:

• Is illegal, obscene, threatening, or harassing
• Infringes on any third party’s intellectual property rights
• Contains malware or harmful code
• Is misleading or fraudulent

7. Content Moderation

All photos are automatically screened by AI-powered moderation before being published. Comments are filtered for profanity. We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or community standards, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.

8. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, data, scoring algorithms, and branding, is owned by Aurora Iceland and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the App.

9. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Settings > Delete Account. This permanently and irreversibly removes all your data, including posts, comments, likes, and profile information.

10. Limitation of Liability

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, PERSONAL INJURY, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated terms will be accessible within the App under Settings > Terms of Service. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles.
